As we embrace a new year there’s often a focus on resolutions, goals, and change; all of which have purpose.  The concept often neglected during this time of year is that of acceptance.  Sometimes we want things to be different so badly that we “white-knuckle” new behaviors, only to slip back into our old habits.  This can breed feelings of hopelessness, sadness, and guilt.  A different way of approaching desired change is to first understand why you do what you do in the first place.  Perhaps the behavior you want to change started for one reason and continued for another.  Or, perhaps, your behavior is meeting a need that you are not fully aware that you have.  No matter what, the encouragement here is to become deeply curious about the purpose of your current ways.  Then, bring a spirit of compassion and acceptance toward these.  This awareness and softness will pave a path for sustainable change; the type we all desire as we become the best version of ourselves.

May 2019 be full of acceptance, compassion, and decisions in-line with your personal values!
